Abstract

A case study approach is used in this article to discuss two different approaches to suicide prevention. The population health approach to preventing suicide is applied to a community case study by analyzing the risk and protective factors inherent in that community and suggesting preventative actions. The crisis prevention approach is applied to two individual case studies to consider the individual and systemic risk factors as well as the precipitating factors that contribute to the possibility that a youth will view suicide as an option for dealing with life's troubles.
