Abstract

Using qualitative data from interviews and journal notes and applying them to Van Maanen and Barley's sociologic framework, a case is made for viewing child and youth care workers through a cultural lens and defining them as an occupational community. Concluding comments explore the benefits of this definition and point to further explorations necessary to enhance an understanding of workers' experience of the direct care field.
