Abstract

This article uses resistance theory to explain how it con tributes to our understanding of some students' resistance to schooling. We present a description of an alternative school in Montreal, Quebec, and discuss how critical pedagogy could effect changes in resisting student subcultures. There are new and creative means of addressing student needs through unraveling and rethinking established school practices. We then discuss the implications for child and youth care workers when addressing the needs and challenges of at risk students.
