Abstract

A configural analysis of burnout in relation to demograph ic, personal, and work environment factors was conducted across 13 different cultures. High Burnout configuration was comprised of higher Emotional Exhaustion, higher Depersonalization and lower Personal Accomplishment. Low Burnout was the reverse configuration; while the Mixed group included those not meeting criteria for either High or Low groups. The High Burnout group showed lower social support, higher work pressure, more chaotic work settings, lower environmental support for autonomy and innovation; in addition, it showed higher escape coping and lower control coping. Recommendations for burnout remediation and prevention were suggested.
